Have anybody travelled on Ocean Diamond with Quark Expeditions? What are your impressions landings, food onboard, etc?

I was looking for reviews online, but could not find anything specifically about this ship and company. It's fun seeing pictures of passengers with the captain when he or she is in dress uniform and the passengers are all comfortable. Lisa, twice our expedition leader looked fabulous in a for-most-of-the-expedition out-of-character dress, reminding us that people may have more sides to them than we see at first glance.

I had a couple of nicer shirts to wear with my jeans or khakis. Still no jacket or fancy shoes. Fit right in. I traveled on the Ocean Diamond Jan. The cruise was excellent and was very happy with it overall.

The food on board was very good. Buffet breakfast scrambled, pancakes, French toeast, bacon, sausage links along with fruit slices, cereal, etc every morning.

Lunch is also buffet with three different meals to choose from as well a vegetarian dish. Dinner is a sit down where you sit wherever there is table space available with usually 4 meal options.

You will wear them over a pair of warm pants, to create an ideal combination of warmth and dryness.

You can purchase these from our online Gear Shop. Gloves: To keep your hands warm and dry, pack a minimum of two pairs of layered gloves. When taking photographs, you will want a pair of thin polypropylene gloves, which will otherwise be worn underneath a pair of bulky, warm outer gloves. We strongly recommend that you bring at least one extra set of gloves, in case one pair gets wet or lost.

Hat and Scarf: Pack a warm, woolen hat or cap that covers your ears, as well as a scarf, neck gaiter or similar face protection. You will find that a peaked or brimmed hat will help protect against the sun, just be sure it has a strap to hold tight during windy conditions. Socks: For maximum warmth, we suggest that you bring a number of pairs of socks to wear inside your rubber boots.

Pack warm, long wool socks that can be worn over a thin pair of silk or polypropylene socks. Quark Expeditions staff members always say: You can never have too many socks! So I was worried this was going to be bad, but truly loved the experience.

The staff was top notch, every single member of the crew and guides so friendly and dedicated to making the ship feel like home. The food was a bit of a disappointment though - which many other passengers echoed.

There was supposed to be an emphasis on health and wellness onboard, with juices and smoothies available regularly There was juice at breakfast, and fresh fruit for dessert if chosen. But the onboard snacks all day were cookies almost always chocolate cookies, also- which a lot of people are allergic to!

Now, you CAN choose to go a la carte and order a plain chicken or salmon piece instead of what the chef serves, but you don't want the same thing every single night. I met a lot of travelers who were dairy intolerant and very upset by this. I didn't personally care as much- but it bears mentioning. Other than that though, really no complaints. The excursions were wonderful, albeit felt a little short. I thought we would be on land longer each time, but then again, it is NOT warm there, so there's that.

Overall, I have to say this trip was incredible though. Again the staff really made a huge difference - I felt every person there genuinely was invested in making it a great trip for all travelers. Food aside - I was very impressed!Think of Quark Expeditions as providing floating basecamps for exploring the most remote regions of the Arctic and Antarctic.
